On Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, members of the Vernedale Neighborhood Association attended the Charlotte Neighborhood Board Retreat to set goals for 2022-23.
During the retreat we learned that we were the only neighborhood association that had completed all the goals previously set at the 2021-22 Neighborhood Board Retreat.
2021-22 neighborhood goals
Last year’s goals completed by the Vernedale Neighborhood Association include:
- Hosting three Keep Charlotte Beautiful clean ups in 12 months;
- Adopting bylaws, electing a board and applying for a Neighborhood Matching Grant to install sign toppers in the neighborhood;
- Increasing engagement and participation of neighbors in the Vernedale Neighborhood Association while telling the story of Vernedale with a new website and enhanced communications.
The Vernedale Neighborhood Association is currently the adopter of Vernedale Rd., Butterwick Ln., and Cricklewood Ln. If you are interested in participating in one of three annual Keep Charlotte Beautiful clean ups, please watch for the volunteer registration links in the monthly newsletter.
In addition, over the past year the association has hosted speakers from different parts of the city, including Councilman Matt Newton, officers from CMPD, and representatives from Code Enforcement, Hickory Grove Library, Animal Control, the Tax Assessors Office and Parks and Recreation, among others.
2022-23 neighborhood goals
This year, the Board set the following goals:
- Perform a study of options for the Board to cover liability issues in order to begin hosting community programs and events.
- Flyer the neighborhood to raise awareness of the association and create a virtual “Welcome Packet” for new neighbors.
- Create an action plan to request upgrades to Campbell Creek Neighborhood Park, including better pedestrian and bike access to the park from Barcliff Dr.
